discipleship

Our strategy to fulfill the vision of Hebron, that God would use Hebron to show Himself to the world, is through discipling those we come in contact with.

Our goals are:

  1. To establish opportunities of learning where spiritual growth can happen so disciples of Jesus Christ become equipped and mature.
  2. To make disciples who make disciples. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Disciples are made by the Word of God Proclaimed, in Prayerful dependence on the Spirit of God, by the People of God, Persevering in relationships in grace over time. We walk our friends through the process of discipleship: Engaging, Evangelizing, Establishing and Equipping.

groves

A Grove at Hebron is a group of people who gather weekly to study God’s Word, build friendships and serve the world.

Groves are the primary place where you are known and cared for at Hebron. It is within these small communities that men and women can grow deeper as they study God’s Word, grow stronger by building friendships, and grow beyond as they serve together. It is within these groups that you practice applying the Gospel to your life. Each Grove expects to experience Jesus Christ in its midst, enabling participants to be transformed through mutual ministry and to experience life in the family of God.

Composed of six to thirty people, Groves meet in homes throughout the community and at the church. All Groves are led by members of the congregation or the pastoral staff. They all receive continued oversight and support from our pastoral staff through training opportunities and leader’s meetings. Groves generally meet weekly for Bible study, fellowship, and prayer. Groves also participate in a service project and a social event once every semester, in place of a regular meeting.

Monday:

Monday Evening—I Peter - I Peter reminds suffering Christians that they are God's chosen people who are in exile here. We are sojourners, aliens, a peculiar people. Peter praises God, who caused people to be born again into a new family with a living hope through Jesus' resurrection and into the power of the Holy Spirit. Peter encourages his Christian readers to persevere in the faith. It's not enough to simply get up every morning, paste a smile on our face and ignore the troubles. Join us as we spend time recognizing their temporary presence in our lives and still walk in holiness and hope as the peculiar people of God.

  • 7:30 to 9:00 pm, Sadie Long, Main
  • Leaders: Heather Ramsay, Seon Jo Park

Tuesday Afternoon Coffee—"THE WORD OF GOD," four words that should get our attention. For IF we truly believe that the Bible is the very words of God, then we should want to know everything He said to us. In The Amazing Collection we begin to see the unifying thread that links all the books together into the magnificent plan of God and how it applies to us. Through this Amazing Collection, we see who God is in each book and His greatness, holiness, power and love for His people. If you've never read the Bible, or if you've read it many times, there is always something new to learn and discover about our awesome Savior! Join us.

Tuesday Evening—"Galatians" - "Now that Faith has Come, A Study of Galatians" by Beth Moore and Melissa Moore digs deeply into this epistle. Paul carried the gospel to Galatia, and this letter proves that he wanted them to live on in God's truth. Expect to hear from God and be transformed as His eternal words come to life. If your world is full of chaos, God may be calling you to find clarity through this study with a group of sisters in Christ.

Forgiven Rebels—"Trusting in HIS Goodness" (A Woman's Guide to Knowing God's Purpose) - "Without a strong confidence in God's goodness, it's impossible to build a foundation from which you can cultivate gratefulness, trust, obedience and rest --which leads to transformation." If you don't believe that God is good, you will become cynical, and angry when difficulties come your way. We will be looking at "Holy Habits" that will encourage us to learn to trust God and HIS goodness.

  • 7:00 to 8:30 pm, Krogh Home, Penn Hills
  • Leaders: Margie Krogh, Peggy Wright, Chris Weaver

Thursday:

Thursday Morning Women—"Ephesians" - The Book of Ephesians calls on believers to ponder and revel in the glory of God and to comprehend all the blessings He has bestowed upon us "in Christ." In consequence, we are called to walk in a manner worthy of what we have received. We will study this book in depth throughout the Fall and Winter-Spring terms. Join us for prayer, study and fellowship as we immerse ourselves in God's Word.

Thursday:

Thursday Evening—"The Character of God" - This class is designed to help us integrate the Biblical teachings on the character of God. The objective is in striving for a truly coherent understanding of all His revealed attributes. For example, how do we relate God's holiness with His love, His justice with His mercy, His simplicity with His manifold attributes, His goodness and omnipotence with the evil we see in His creation. What are God's purposes in creation an redemption and what do these reveal about His character as the One who loves in freedom.
