On June 7 we began a new series entitled, “Between the Rock
and a Hard Place, a Study of 1 Peter”. Why 1 Peter? Two reasons: (1) Jesus’
restoration and recommissioning of Peter is the final scene of John’s Gospel.
And it begs the question, how did it turn out? What kind of man did Peter
become? 1 Peter is his writings nearly 30 years later. It is incredibly
instructive to all who seek to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
(2) This letter is written by a Christian sufferer to those who are suffering
social, economic, and physical turmoil, just like us.
It has been said that the true greatness of a text lies not
only on the surface of what is being said, but in the ideas and convictions
that underlie it. No piece of Scripture fits that description any better than 1
Peter.
As we reengage in corporate worship at a time of
roiling social and racial conflict, moral and political turpitude, no Word of
God is more poignant or no more needed than 1 Peter. As our response to COVID-19 Phase 1, in addition to our online services, our current in-person service times are:
- Thursdays at 7:00 pm - Barclay Building
- Sundays at 10:00 am - Sanctuary
